Chambishi project recently held a safety knowledge competition, hosted by the Zambian Safety Manager, participated by 8 teams from the section crew and departments, with each team consisting of 5 Zambian employees. 300 questions were prepared based on the local mining regulations, project’s safety management regulations, safety and environmental management manual and 60 measures for prevention of non-coal mine typical accidents, covering various SOPs and site emergency safety knowledge and laws & regulations. The competition was divided into two parts: required questions and quick response questions, and knock-out system was adopted.

The competition lasted three hours and the contestants were all well prepared. After five rounds of competition, the team jointly from Equipment & Materials Department and Surface Repair Workshop won the first place, and the ones from the transportation crew and the main mining section ranked the second and third respectively.

At the end of the competition, Alfonso Mwamba, Zambian Underground Manager, summarized the performance of the teams and stressed the importance of strengthening safety knowledge learning, striving to improve safety skills, and strictly following the SOP. Mr. Xizhu LI, the executive deputy manager of the project, and the Zambian management awarded the winning teams, hoping that the project staff can further implement the “three adhere-to”, i.e. adhere to risk prevention and control, adhere to level-by-level control and policies implementation, adhere to the source prevention, systematic governance and special rectification” to lay a solid foundation for the production with safety in 2024.

Chambishi project also successfully held four types of emergency drill activities in June corresponding to fire, poisoning and suffocation, electric shock and roof falling. Before the drills, the project made a detailed plan and organized several training and simulation exercises to ensure that every safety officer was familiar with his/her duties and operating procedures. In the fire emergency drill, the safety officer explained how to ensure personal safety and escape quickly and key points of using fire extinguisher and self-rescuer. On June 24, the emergency drill for electric shock accident was carried out for the electricity management of the maintenance workshop, and the emergency treatment of electric shock accident was simulated. In addition, the emergency drills for poisoning and suffocation and roof falling were also carried out to teach how to ensure personal safety when an accident occurs, and how to protect yourself and wait for rescue after an accident.
